Donated Services Application

Our community matters to us. Home Sown Gardens gives back each year by donating its services to nonprofits and individuals with financial or mobility barriers. We love working to transform our community through caretaking and landscape redesign!

Our application for 2019 is closed. Thanks for all your interest! Our frequently asked questions remain below to provide information for those who are interested in applying for our 2020 season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Home Sown Gardens accepts applications from nonprofits, individuals with financial barriers or low incomes, and individuals with mobility barriers (people with disabilities). We ask you to share more about why you are asking for our donated services as part of the application. Businesses are not eligible to apply.

What kind of services do you donate?

Home Sown Gardens will donate up to a full day of labor doing garden and landscape maintenance, restoration, or renewal design. (Check out our services page for more details!) We do not provide materials or plants of any kind, only labor. We cannot take on multi-day projects at this time.

How many organizations do you select each year? How do you select them?

We select one organization during our service season. We accept up to 10 applications to review. We open our application no later than June 1 and close it after we reach our limit. We make a decision about which organization we'll work with by July 1.

If we are selected, when will you come to our site?

Home Sown Gardens will work with you to select a weekday (Monday-Friday ONLY) in late July or August as our service schedules allow. We are not able to schedule on a weekend.

Do we need to be in your service area to apply?

Yes, organizations must be located in the MSP metro area and within our service area (20 mile radius from our headquarters. Click to see a Google Map of our service area.)

What does the application look like?

We ask for basic information about you or your organization, a description of project and the area you would like serviced, and up to 300 words about why you would like Home Sown Gardens to donate our services. After we screen applicants, we may follow up with an e-mail to ask for a photo of the area you would like serviced.

How do we apply?

During the active application period you can find a link on this webpage.

Can we reapply for repeat services?

If you are not selected, you are welcome to reapply for services during the following application period. Once you have been selected you are no longer eligible to apply.

The glory of gardening:
hands in the dirt,
head in the sun,
heart with nature.
To nuture a garden is to feed
not just the body, but the soul.
